Virtual Makers: Pattern Wood Veneer Art
Learn the basics of veneer in this beginner level virtual workshop. New Orleans based artist and woodworker, Chelsea Van Voorhis, will teach you how to cut veneer to create geometric patterns, correctly tape wood patterns, then press to substrate, sand, and finish your panel. This class will include multiple brief lectures with plenty of working class time to experiment and ask questions. Finished panel can be used as a trivet or hung on the wall.
About the Instructor
Chelsea is an artist and woodworker focused on designing and making fashion forward products out of wood. She specializes in veneer, using traditional techniques such as tambour and laminate bending to create nontraditional pieces such as wearable wooden collars and round bottom wooden purses. Having spent years dumpster diving for materials, using cheap and insufficient tools, and completing projects in her kitchen, she believes that the only thing needed to create is gumption and desire. Chelsea believes that everyone is an artist and should have access to education and inspiration.

Required Tools
Certain tools are required to participate in the virtual workshop. We have provided a list of tools needed for the workshop with links to recommendations below. These are just recommendations. Expensive tools make projects slightly easier but gumption and desire is more important than money.
Utility knife (it you use a different utility knife, just make sure it has a snap off blade)
Metal ruler (less expensive option) or ruler with a metal edge
Blue tape or painter’s tape (any painters tape will work)
Wood glue (any wood glue will work)
At least two 24" clamps or 12" clamps (you can use large clamps on small projects but you can’t use small clamps on large projects, so it might be worth investing in larger ones)
Preferred wood finish (Chelsea prefers lacquer but you use whatever you like)
