Habitat for Humanity Build With Pride

Scope

Dykes With Drills joined Habitat for Humanity for their Build With Pride community build in September.

Habitat is a proud partner of the LGBTQ community. In 1991, Steve Jacoby took the first steps toward bringing Habitat for Humanity to San Francisco. He died from AIDS before ever seeing the organization incorporated, but without his vision and work, Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco would not exist today.

The Build With Pride event honors the memory of Stephen Blake Jacoby. Dykes With Drills was excited to partner this year with Habitat for Humanity and thanks the Golden Gate Business Association for making this volunteer build possible.

Playland Community Park Skate Ramp

Scope

Our first large scale community project was building a skate ramp at Playland Skate Park in San Francisco. We brought awareness of the plan to close the park to put in teacher housing to the neighborhood.

We had two weekend builds and ended the project with a Best Trick Skate Contest. Everyone was included - parents, kids, friends and family. That build marked the beginning of Dykes With Drills. It was something that couldn’t have been accomplished without the help of everyone.

Watch a video of this community project here.
